Battle Cam is an AI system for procedurally generating camera shots during a battle in a real-time strategy game, and the subject of this session. During game play, the user may choose to activate the battle camera system, and it generates shots of the battle in progress from the point of view of a flying battle camera. The system uses a model of visual attention, inspired by techniques from computational neurobiology to pick interesting objects to look at in the scene. It then generates a custom camera shot for the object. Markov chains are used to sequence together shots in order to get some coherence from the varying shots. This technique is used succesfully in real time space and land battles in STAR WARS: EMPIRE AT WAR.
