Session Name: Cross-media Development of Your IP and Globalization Strategy of Your Game
Speaker(s): James Zhang
Company Name(s): Concept Art House
Track / Format: Global Game Development/Outsourcing
Overview: A strong IP does have the power to cross mediums and borders, but how to promote and package the product is the key to success. The biggest challenge in globalizing a Chinese game or IP in the Western market (or vice versa) is not the quality of the product, but the lack of cultural and market understanding. The same applies to transmedia development which often requires a developer to reach outside of their core competence.

This lecture will offer case studies and analysis of successful IP integration and cross platform development. The case study will focus on the renown Chinese novel Daomubiji as it evolved from a book into the best-selling original graphic novel in China and a soon to be video game and comic book in the United States. The session will focus on best IP strategies and practices in selecting the right over-sea business partners, employees, adapting to cultural differences, and optimizing the IP to attracting large international fan-base in games, films, comics, and other forms of entertainment.
